Luengo To Head Coface Canada

Trade risk company Coface has named Sonia Luengo as its new Canada Risk Underwriting Manager for North America. A seasoned business manager with more than a decade of industry experience, including the areas of credit, risk and finance, Luengo, in her new role, will manage Coface’s Canadian team of risk underwriters who are responsible for making credit decisions on Canadian buyers as well as proactively monitoring the portfolio of risk in order to mitigate losses.

“We are excited to welcome Sonia to our Coface team,” Juan Saborido, President and CEO of Coface North America said in a company statement. “Her impressive background, with its focus on strategic credit risk management and controlled business growth aligns perfectly with our business objectives. We expect Sonia to make a direct and positive impact for Coface in Canada.”

Ms. Luengo’s prior roles include senior management positions at financial institutions and insurance companies in Canada and Spain, including Scotiabank, Close Brothers, Genworth Mortgage Insurance, Euler Hermes and BNP Paribas.

Luengo holds certification in Advance Management from IESE Business School, earned an MA in International Business Law from London Metropolitan University and holds a BA in Business and Law from Comillas Pontifical University.

Eurasia Group Taps Polish Diplomat

Eurasia Group, the global political risk firm headed by notable political scientist Dr. Ian Bremmer, this month announced the appointment of the Honorable Radosław (Radek) Sikorski, former foreign minister and minister of defense of Poland, as a senior advisor to the New York City-based firm. An expert on European affairs, Sikorski will work with Eurasia Group to offer strategic insights on the geopolitics of the region, the firm said in a statement.

“Radek Sikorski’s tenure as a European Union foreign minister has given him a deep understanding of the challenges facing the continent,” said Ian Bremmer, Eurasia Group’s founder and president. “His expertise will be a valuable addition for clients looking to seize opportunities across the region.”

As minister of foreign affairs, Sikorski negotiated and signed the Poland-Russia regional visa-free regime, the Poland-US missile defense agreement and along with Carl Bildt, launched the EU’s Eastern Partnership, bridging cooperation between the EU and its eastern neighbors.

“As recent events have shown, Europe’s crises will continue to have economic effects that ricochet around the world,” said Sikorski. “I’m thrilled to join Eurasia Group to help its clients anticipate and respond to these challenging dynamics.”

ICAP Names New Strategy Lead

ICAP, the London-based markets operator and provider of post-trade risk mitigation and information services, announced this month the appointment of Seth Johnson, who currently holds the role of Head of Strategy at the firm’s Global Broking division, has officially been appointed CEO of EBS BrokerTec. Johnson takes the reigns from Gil Mandelzis who, as announced on July 21 2016, has decided to leave the company.

As Head of Strategy for Global Broking, Johnson has been responsible for increasing company revenues, improving the application of technology to the ICAP business model and broadening customer coverage. He previously led the expansion of ICAP‘s Electronic Markets product portfolio as CEO of BrokerTec and CEO of the ICAP Securities & Derivatives Exchange (ISDX).

Johnson will continue to sit on the ICAP Global Executive Management Group (GEMG) and will report directly to ICAP CEO Michael Spencer.
